Maria (Mozzi) Conedera

Maria (Mozzi) Conedera, age 94 of Clairton, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 27, 2020 in the company of the caregivers at Harmon House, Mt. Pleasant, who loved her dearly.  Born April 12, 1926 in Borgonovo Val Tidone, Italy, she was a daughter of the late Primo and Giuseppina Mozzi.  Maria moved to the United States in 1950 to be with her beloved husband, the late Riccardo Conedera, who passed away November 13, 2000.  She was a proficient seamstress, retiring from J.C. Penney's, and was a member of Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish, St. Clare of Assisi Church and the Italian Sons and Daughters of America.  Maria was an avid gardener, and her cooking was legendary.  When you visited Maria, you were always welcomed and blessed with a meal fit for a king.  She was loved by everyone that crossed her path and will be deeply missed.

Dennis J. Ross, age 72  of North Huntingdon died November 27, 2020 at his home. He was born  July 11, 1948  in Greensburg, a son of the late Roccie Ross Sr. and Dolores (Zanarini) Ross. Prior to his retirement, Dennis was employed as a journeyman-machinist. He was a Vietnam veteran having served as a Sergeant  in the U.S. Air Force. He was an animal lover who also enjoyed hunting. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joan C. "Joanie" Vozel Ross in 2010. He is survived by three sons, Trevor Mink, Troy Mink and his wife Jamie, Kristoffer Ross, four brothers,  Marc, Keith, Roccie Jr, and Michael Ross, two sisters, Mary Blasioli, Roxanne Costa, two grandchildren, Autumn and Luca Mink.

He is survived by his son Richard (Wendy) Hagblom, granddaughter Nichole (Eric Jeffcoat) Hagblom, and great-grandchildren Anthony Swink, Zoey Jeffcoat, and Eric Jeffcoat Jr. He was preceded in death by his sister Virginia Robins. John was retired from Westinghouse Bettis, a member of St. Joseph Church, GBU Lifespan and the Duquesne Annex Firehall where he volunteered at the bingo and firemans fair, and also served in the U.S. Army.

Marilyn is a graduate of Hopkins High School in Columbia, SC. She later married the late Albert Jackson and moved to Clairton where she became a member of Morning Star Baptist Church. Marilyn is retired from UPMC McKeesport Hospital, and had worked for JoAnn Fabrics for the past 30 years.

She loved cooking, shopping, sewing, and making blankets.

Meredith Duane Williams “Mert”, “Murky”, 55, of Stafford, Virginia, departed this life on Monday, November 9, 2020. Meredith was born on September 6, 1965, in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Barbara Williams, Janice Brownfield, and the late Meredith Brownfield. Mr. Williams graduated from McKeesport Highschool in 1983. He then enlisted and served 25 years in the United States Marine Corps. He received his Bachelors in Business and Masters in Public Administration from Strayer University.

Mert, a man of many talents and passions, spent his free time hunting, fishing, and creating joyous moments with his loved ones. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, and friend. As a member of Zion Baptist Church, Mr. Williams would graciously provide the fish for the church’s annual fish fry.

Leonard (“Duke”) Ducar, 89, of Duquesne died November 21, 2020 in Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh.  Born November 29, 1930, he was the son of the late John and Anna (Billi) Ducar of Munhall and the beloved husband of Evelyn (Urban) Ducar for 27 years before her passing in 1988.  He was also preceded in death by his brothers John, Michael and Joseph, and sisters Mary Bobick and Ann Ducar.

Leonard was the loving father of daughter Eva Ducar of West Homestead, sons John (Jill) Ducar of Penn Township and James Ducar of Duquesne, and the loving Pa of Sara and Cecelia Ducar.  He was also the loving brother of Bernard (Janet) Ducar of Whitaker, Frances (Stephen) Fischer of West Homestead, Martha (Thomas) McAloon of Whitehall, and Dolores (Donald) Rohac of Irwin,and uncle to several nieces and nephews. .

Artim, 84, of North Huntingdon, passed away November 25, 2020 at her home.  She was born April 8, 1936 in Braddock, a daughter of the late William and Margaret Kamenic.  Prior to her retirement, Dorothy worked for Westinghouse, Chalfant, Pa., Norwin School District as a monitor and the Westmoreland County Food Bank.  She was a veteran of the US Women's Army Corp., a member of St. Agnes Parish and Manor Legion Post #472 and enjoyed walking, shopping, cooking and crocheting.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Edward, Robert and Charles Kamenic; sister, Evelyn Kamenic; and baby, Margaret Artim.  She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Thomas Artim; sons, Ken and Tom Jr; stepchildren, Donny and Krysty Sgambati; sister, Dolores (Ronald) Zawodni; and granddaughter, Catherine.  Friends will be received from 3-7 p.m. on Sunday at the James W. After a long battle with cancer, Carol Ruth (Sharpnack) Thompson, age 75, of West Newton passed away on Friday, November 20, 2020 at Ascension St. Thomas Midtown Hospital in Nashville, TN. She retired as a secretary for GMAC in St. Petersburg, FL and she worked part-time with her late mother at Sandcastle and Kennywood. She enjoyed traveling and sports. Born June 24, 1945 in Teaneck, NJ, she was a daughter of the late Thomas E. and Caroline (McLaughlin) Sharpnack. She is survived by her daughter, Nancye (Shaun) Hill of Manchester, TN; grandson, Austin Kistler of Manchester, TN; sister, Peggy (Ron) Mizla of Morgantown, WV; also, many cousins. Friends will be received in the Paul E. Bekavac Funeral Home, 221 North Second Avenue, Elizabeth on Monday, November 30, 2020 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at 12 Noon in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Marvin C. Watson officiating. Burial will follow in Round Hill Cemetery, Elizabeth Twp. In order to comply with Covid-19 restrictions, attendance will be limited to 50 people at any given time inside the funeral home. He was born August 14, 1932 in McKeesport and was the son of the late George Gustave Alund, Sr, and the late Edith (Swanson) Alund. William was a member of Christy Park United Methodist Church and was a member of the former Jenny Lind United Methodist Church where he was in the choir for over 60 years. He also enjoyed participating in the McKeesport Barbershop Chorus and the National Carbide and Tool Society. He retired from Champion Tool and Die after 50 years of employment and was a US Army Veteran serving during the Korean War.
