Garry M. Buckholz
Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | October 30, 2023
Garry M. “Haystack” Buckholz of North Huntingdon, 68, passed away with his family by his side at Forbes Hospital on October 29, 2023 at 12:25pm. Garry was born on November 29, 1954, the son of the late Edward and Helen (Sebini) Buckholz. He is also preceded in death by his “favorite” mother-in-law (Marie L. Reed), brother-in-law (Vaughn Reed) and sister-in-law (Norma Reed), as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and furry, four-legged friends. Garry retired from truck driving earlier this year, after a career spanning forty-six years.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years Cheryl (Reed) Buckholz, and their children, Christine (Jason) Baverso of North Huntingdon, Shelly Buckholz (Jeff McMullen) of Youngwood, and Russell (Anna Jean) Buckholz of Westmoreland City. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Jacob “Little Buddy” and Liberty “Ugly Granddaughter” Ferrarini, Jonah “Booger” Baverso, Jayden “Little Girl” Marcius, Gage “Little Guy” Buckholz, and Baby Buckholz expected in May 2024. Garry also had several fur babies, that were close to his heart, Bubba, Swiper, Angel, and Cosmo. In addition to his wife and children, Garry leaves behind his siblings, Timothy (Maggie) Buckholz of Oxford, NC, Suzanne (David) Ulakovic of North Versailles, and William (Effie) Buckholz of Rillton. As well as brother-in-law Wayne Reed of Youngwood, sister-in-law Betsy Reed of Beatty, NV, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Garry will be remembered for his love of trains, cooking and baking (cinnamon rolls and “period” cakes) for his family, as well as collecting useless objects and for not finishing projects, which drove his wife Cheryl crazy. Garry was known to be a jokester, stubborn, and sarcastic, but most of all, he was a big cuddly, teddy bear at heart, who gave good advice (whether solicited or not). The family would also like to thank the staff of Forbes Hospital ICU, and all of the doctors, nurses, and care-providers for their efforts, care, and compassion during Garry’s time with them. Family and Friends will be received from 2-8 p.m. on Thursday at James W. Shirley Funeral Home, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon, PA 15642. A service will take place at 7 p.m. With Rev. Anthony Marcino officiating. In lieu of flowers, monetary gifts may be made directly to the funeral home. The family will be holding a celebration of Garry’s life in the future at an undetermined date and time.
