Julia Rusin, age 99, a lifelong resident of McKeesport, died January 3, 2024, at St. Mary Medical Center of Hobart, IN. Born March 1, 1924, in Nellie, PA, Julia's journey through life was one marked with love, compassion, and unwavering dedication to her family. She brought light into the world and touched the lives of those around her with her warm and nurturing spirit. Julia was the daughter of the late John and Anna (Kasich) Maha and the wife of the late Andrew Rusin, Jr.

After graduating from McKeesport High School, Julia dedicated herself to her family, becoming a devoted homemaker. Her home was a place of love and comfort, always open to anyone in need. Julia's selflessness and kindness extended beyond her immediate family, as she was a pillar of support for her community.
While raising her family, Julia also found time to contribute to the local Democratic Party. Whether it was volunteering at the polls or actively participating in political discussions, she had a strong belief in the power of democracy and made her voice heard.
In her earlier years, Julia worked at the former Murphy Warehouse during WWII, where she displayed her work ethic and dedication to the task at hand. It was through hard work and perseverance that she built a foundation of strength and resilience that would shape her character throughout her lifetime.
Julia was a woman of faith and was an active member of the St. Michael Orthodox Church of McKeesport. Her unwavering faith provided her with solace and guidance, and she found comfort in the embrace of her spiritual community.
As a member of the former Croation Catholic Union of USA and presently the Croation Fraternal Union of America, Julia remained connected to her heritage and found solace in the bonds of her cultural community. She was proud of her ancestry and celebrated it as a reflection of her identity.
Julia's legacy extends beyond her beloved family. She served as a member of the Women's Auxiliary for the 78th Infantry Lightning Division of the US Army. Her dedication to and supporting our troops showcased her patriotism and unwavering commitment to the values of the nation she loved.
She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Julia is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra (Melchior) Masina of Hobart, IN; grandson, Paul (Marlo) Masina; great-grandchildren, Theodora and Rosalyn Masina; also many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
In addition to her husband and parents, Julia was also preceded in death by her son, Andrew D. Rusin, III; and siblings, John, Peter, Michael, Mary Gobbles, Anna Becker, and Helen Shaw.
Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Thursday, January 11, 2024, from 4 p.m. until the time of the Panachida service at 6:30 p.m. Funeral prayers will begin at 9:30 a.m., Friday in the funeral home chapel. A funeral service will be celebrated, at 10 a.m., in St. Michael Orthodox Church, 424 9th St., McKeesport, PA 15132. Committal prayers and burial will follow in McKeesport & Versailles Cemetery.
