Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | May 25, 2024

Helen R. Kastan, age 92, of Glassport, died May 21, 2024, at home. Born September 30, 1931, in Munhall, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Elizabeth (Petrick) Ribar and wife of the late Bernard Kastan, Sr.

Helen was a bridal seamstress, a skill she pursued before dedicating her time to raising her family. She was a member of the former Holy Trinity and St. Martin de Porres and a current member of Saints Joachim and Anne Parish. Her green thumb was evident to all who knew her, as she could often be found in her yard, meticulously pulling weeds and cultivating her beloved tomatoes and cucumbers.

Helen's adventurous spirit was evident in her love for car trips with her husband, where they explored the beauty of our country together. She also cherished the memories of bus trips with her husband and sisters, which created lasting bonds and treasured moments.

Helen is survived by children, Theresa (Sandy) Frank, Robert (Lori) Kastan, and Bernie Jr. (Janet) Kastan; grandchildren, Emily (Lane) Simpson, Jacob Frank, Robin Kastan, and Justin (Alex) Yanity; great-granddaughter, Sadie Simpson; a sister, Aggie Costel and nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by sisters, Margaret Fidel and Mary Ondrik. Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Monday, May 27, 2024, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, 10 a.m., at Saints Joachim and Anne Parish, St. Eugene Church. Burial will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.jaycox-jaworskifh.com.
