Gordon Leroy Freer, 89, died Friday, November 25, 2016 after a long struggle with cancer.  Born May 24,1927, he was son of the late Lucius and Rena Mae Moore of Smethport, PA.

 He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years and the love of his life, Betty Jean (Elizabeth) O'roke, son, Scott Gordon, and brother, Charles.  He is survived by daughter, Susan (Jeanne) of Penn Hills, sisters, Helen Roote of Wellsburg, NY and Alice (Don) Burrows of Rixford, PA, brother Leroy (Sandy) of Burgettstown, PA, and several nieces and nephews.  Gordon served with the US Coast Guard from 1944 to1946, enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and being in nature, and was a founding member of the Penn's Woods United Methodist Church.  Following the death of his son, he volunteered for many years with the Boy Scouts of America and Compassionate Friends.  His daughter would like to give a thank you to his wonderful, dedicated, and loving caregiver, Dee Kennedy.  Dee made his final months much better and made possible his wish to be at home.  Also, thanks to AseraCare Hospice for helping Gordon and his daughter through the most difficult of days.  Friends will be received Sunday 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon, PA.  A funeral service will be held Monday 11 AM in the funeral home chapel followed by interment at Mt.
