Dorothy M. Brookhouser, 98, of Gibsonia, formerly of Elizabeth Township, passed away Saturday, August 17, 2024 surrounded by love and her family. She was born November 18, 1925 in Huntington, WV. She was the daughter of the late Charles L. and Margarette (Metzler) Boyer. She was the wife of the late Charles W. Brookhouser who passed away September 3, 2001. Dorothy was a member of the Boston United Methodist Church and the choir. She was also part of the Butler's Ladies Golf League and the Elizabeth Forward Community Chorus. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and the former Preschool for Exceptional Children. She was a Bomb Inspector at the Christy Park Works during WWII and had received certificates for her service to the war effort. She was a retired dental assistant working 30 years for Dr. Charles Jones. Dorothy saw beauty in everything expressing that joy as an amateur artist in painting and poetry.
She is survived by her daughters, Paulina (Frank) Sanfilippo of California, SueAnn Auretto (Fred) of Gibsonia, Dawn Marie (Mike) Merrigan of Fredericksburg, VA and Colleen Wendy (Darby) Scarantine of Gibsonia as well as sister, Anna Marie Taylor of Michigan. Dorothy enjoyed all 14 of her grandchildren as the focus of her life: Jeffrey, Daniel, Jennifer, Josh, Gina, Cristie, Danielle, Billy, Carolynn, Tony, Stephen, Jessica, Gavin and Cody. Her grandchildren blessed her with their families including 18 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Her family also includes her former son-in-law, John Burns of Squirrel Hill and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Alfred Boyer and sisters, Ella Morgan and Mary Lou Keilen. Family and friends are welcome to stop by her “Celebration of Life” gathering at the Clubhouse at The Links at 1266 Nicklaus Way Gibsonia Pa 15044 on Sunday, September 1 st , 2024 from 2-5pm with light refreshments. A Microsoft Teams link is available for those unable to be there in person who would like to speak with the family. Dorothy’s wishes were that we celebrate, no sadness, tell funny stories, and have a Miller Lite. Many of her paintings will be on display. The family would like to thank the wonderful wonderful team at Brookdale Penn Hills Assisted Living for a year and a half of being our family as well as Bridges Hospice, especially Lauren for their caring and compassion in these final days shown to Dorothy.
