Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | January 15, 2025
Norman T. Urbanski “ The Duke” was born on September 4th, 1927 in Glassport, PA to the late Clarence and Helen (Dworek) Urbanski. It is with heavy hearts that we announce his passing on January 14th, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. ”Stormin” Norman was the beloved husband of the late Audrey (Novak) Urbanski for 66 years. He was an inspiring and devoted father to Norma (James) Bradley, Gary Urbanski, LeeAnn (JR) Jamison. Norman was a proud 1946 graduate of Glassport High School. He was an intricate part of the class reunion committees. He enlisted in the US army during the Korean War at the age of 18. Norman was a lifelong member of the Glassport American Legion, the PNA #750, and the Queen Of The Rosary Parish. He was an active participant in his community during his younger years, supporting and managing several youth programs. Norm’s strong work ethic was evident to all who knew him. He was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for hunting and fishing. His favorite place to be was in the mountains at the family camp telling stories “tall tales” and reminiscing with his family and good friends. His “buddies for life” are his grandchildren, Brooks (Kristina) Ploskina, Brandon (Jaclyn) Ploskina, Rachel (Brian) Latine, Alexa (Seth) Williams, Katie Bradley, Jenny Bradley, Julia (David) Callahan, Luke (Kristen) Urbanski, Zack (Victoria) Urbanski, two step-grandchildren Reilly Jamison, Aaron Jamison, and his great grandchildren Maliah, Emma, Bryce, Draven, Jessa, Brynn, Ailee, Dottie, Arya, Selah and Jude. Norman is survived by his brothers Edward and Thomas. He was preceded in death by his brothers Clem and Eugene and his sister Ann. Norman had many phrases that we all will remember him by: “God bless America, I’m “overhelmed”, Buddies for life, 42 kid, Stand up and be recognized, peace be with you, fugitive from Nova Scotia, sum in a bitch, buck tooth Charlie, nobody died calm down, watch you don’t fall, Look me in the eyes, all be goddamn that is a bear, Sh**, Shower, and Shave” Along with a few of the grandchildren’s favorite childhood memories: Secret handshake, Trips to camp, walking the balance beam at round hill park, Flipping all of us, candy after dinner in his work room, climbing over the chair to mess with him while reading the newspaper and constantly knocking it out of his hands, messing up his hair, the hidden bag of chips under the bar, fishing trips to Canada and Kinzua, Listening to baseball on the back porch while watching the birds, the blue truck, him sweeping the back porch religiously, singing Halls of Montezuma and Come into my Heart, getting ice cream and his strawberry sundae with the works, eating the best cookie in the world, Oreos. A Special thank you to all of the wonderful and loving staff at Grandview Estates of Elizabeth for caring for Norman. We are forever grateful for treating our father like your own. A special thanks to OSPTA hospice for your compassionate care. So signing off; See ya later, 42 kid until we meet again. Godspeed.
