Shirley R. (Flading) Hanko, age 93, of North Versailles, formerly of McKeesport, died on June 28, 2025, at Amoroso Wellness in York. Born January 18, 1932, in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Paul L. and Gertrude Marie (Gessner) Flading and wife of 66 years to the late John E. Hanko.
Shirley was a Member of Mary, Mother of God Parish, St. Angela Merici Church, and a past member of the former St. Angela Keener Citizens. She was also a member of AARP No. 2294 of White Oak. Shirley enjoyed traveling with her husband to his Navy Reunion Group as well as family vacations. Shirley was a past Officer of the Mon Yough ARC. Shirley graduated from McKeesport High and began working for Bell Telephone. Later she worked as administrative assistant for US Steel for a number of years.
She is survived by sons, Paul (Melissa) Hanko of York, PA, and James (Lois) Hanko of Redwood City, CA; grandchildren, Karlene, Olivia, Suzanne, Karen (Matthew Deleon-Randolph); great-grandchildren, Joshua and Benjamin; sister, Joan DeCecco; sisters-in-law, Beverly Hoffman, Renee Hudson, and Olga Hanko. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl, grandson, Kristopher; brothers, Donald (Janet) Flading and Ralph Flading; brother-in-law, William Hanko.
Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworksi Funeral Home & Crematory on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Mary, Mother of God Parish, St. Angela Merici Church. The burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Park. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.jaycox-jaworskifh.com.
