Marla Jean Kalning, age 90 of North Huntingdon, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2025. Marla was born on January 4, 1935, a daughter of the late Howard Hornfeck and Ada Carlson Hornfeck. She was a member of Sampson's Mills Church in White Oak. Marla was a graduate of McKeesport High School and also McKeesport Nursing School. During her career, she practiced as a company nurse and a registered nurse at McKeesport Hospital. Marla enjoyed many artistic hobbies, including watercolor painting, drawing, ceramic crafting, and photography. In her free time, she volunteered with the Norwin Art League and the Carnegie Museum on the Move. Marla also enjoyed U.S. and international travel and had a love of learning taking online classes until recently and her dogs brought her great joy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband Laimon Kalning in 2003. Marla is survived by two sons, Greg Kalning (wife Madalyn) and Doug Kalning (wife Diane), two daughters, Lisa Howerton (husband Scott), and Linda Kalning, and six grandchildren, Mitchell Kalning (wife Cati), Matthew Kalning (wife Courtney), Marshall Kalning (Madison), Jimmy Howerton (Sofia), Nicholas Kalning, and Jacob Kalning. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 10, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon. If joining us to celebrate Marla's life, feel free to wear pastel colors in honor of her love of art and flowers. A memorial service will be held at Sampson's Mills Presbyterian Church in White Oak on Thursday, September 11, at 11 AM. PLEASE GO DIRECTLY TO THE CHURCH.
