Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | October 14, 2025

Vervaine E. "Vickie" Mains, 100, of White Oak passed away Monday, October 13, 2025. She was born at home in Port Vue on May 18, 1925 to the late Charles J. and Hilda (Johnson) Blamick. She was the loving wife to the late Walter G. Mains, Jr., before his passing in November 2009. Vervaine was a long time member of Faith Lutheran Church, and a part of the Pythias Sisters Fraternal Organization. She also enjoyed bowling, and for many years joined in on leagues, such as the Ebonites and the Old Timers League, here in White Oak. She was a retired stenographer for US steel, as well as an amazing homemaker. Vervaine took great pride and joy in her family and always knew how to make each and every one of them feel special - sending cards to all for birthdays, holidays, and 'just because.' She even made sure cards were prepared to be sent to loved ones up until her last few days here with us.

She is survived by her son, Daryl G. (Cindy) Mains of Greensburg; daughter, Cathy L. (Ronald) Jaskolski of Scottboro, AL; sister, Kathryn (the late Carl) Seitz of Brookfield, OH; son-in-law, Charles Grimsley of Daytona Beach, FL; sisters-in-law, Arlene Blamick and Carolyn Blamick; six grandchildren, Christina Jaskolski Geiger, Brian Grimsley, Mark (Meghan) Grimsley, Elizabeth (Jason) Rigby, Lindsay (Radie) Kreutzer, and Daryl (Melanie) Mains, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Kylee Geiger, Jackson Gavin, and Emma Rigby, and Tanith, Grant, and Paige Kreutzer; as well as Alessia Brambilla - an Italian Exchange student that the whole family adored; and her dearest friend, Barbara Jo Cush, who was always there for her. In addition to her parents and husband, Vervaine is preceded in death by her daughter, Saundra R. Grimsley; and siblings, Charles (Gertrude) Blamick, Jeanette (Steve) Jenney, Robert (Lois) Blamick, Joseph Blamick, Wesley (Carol) Blamick, and Elveria (Donald) Johnson. Friends are welcome Thursday, October 16, 2025 from 10-12pm at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1638 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131. (412) 672-6322 Troy J. Gilbert, Director. Funeral Service will take place at 12Noon in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Penn Lincoln Memorial Park. Condolences can be made at Gilbertfuneralhomeandcrematory.com
