Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | January 13, 2026
Kayla Emily Castro, age 34, was taken far too soon in a tragic accident on January 10, 2026, leaving behind a love that time can never erase. She was born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, on May 10, 1991, the beloved daughter of Raymond and Laurel Castro. A devoted mother, sister, granddaughter, cousin, aunt, niece, and godmother to her nephew Vinny, Kayla's life was rooted in love, family, and deep connection. Kayla was a devoted mother to her two beautiful children, Mila Rae and Brantley Vito, whom she shared with their father, Jake Lawson. They were the center of her world and the greatest expression of her love. Everything she did was for them. She was hardworking, kind, and endlessly loving. Deeply artistic, Kayla saw beauty in the world and expressed it through her creativity, carrying herself with a gentle and thoughtful spirit. She was also an amazing cook who loved sharing her creations with family and friends. Kayla shared an unbreakable bond with her sister, Kristen Wojdyla, who was also her best friend. Their relationship was filled with love, laughter, and a closeness that words cannot fully describe. She was also close to her grandmother Mabel Riley and brother-in-law, Drew Wojdyla. Family meant everything to Kayla. She was proud of her new job and the progress she made over the past year, moving forward with quiet confidence and hope for the future she was building. Kayla adored her nieces and nephews and held a special place in her heart for her newly born nephew, Vinny, whom she loved dearly. Gentle, beautiful, and compassionate, Kayla had a way of making others feel cared for simply by being herself. Though her life was far too brief, the love she gave was immeasurable. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, John Riley, and her uncle, Harvey Wainer. Forever missed. Forever loved. Forever remembered.
Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Friday, January 16, 2026, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.
