Dorothy Jean Salopek, 82, of Elizabeth Township, passed away Monday, January 26, 2026. She was born March 12, 1943 in Snowshoe, PA and was the daughter of the late Herman John and Victoria Dorothy (Hopton) Goretzka. Dorothy was the wife of the late John J. Salopek, who was the White Oak Borough Chief of Police for 36 years, he passed away December 6, 1993. Dorothy worked numerous jobs throughout her lifetime, she had a prominent role as secretary and switchboard operator for Penn State McKeesport, now Penn State Greater Allegheny, where she was the first person you'd see if you needed anything. She also worked many years as a secretary and switchboard operator for Forbes Hospital, before finally being the secretary of her church, Peace Lutheran Church in Greenock. She was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church and loved her church family. She had a love of animals, especially her dogs, especially Lilly and the late Katie. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her nieces, Amy (David) Ledgard, and Carol (fiancé, Sam Bauccio) Rizzo; nephews, Charles (Michelle) Goretzka and Michael (the late Carrie Lynn) Goretzka; numerous other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and extended family. Viewing will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026 from 10 am to 11:00 am at Peace Lutheran Church, 641 Zimmer Road, Greenock PA 15047. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 am with the Rev. Scott Brite, officiating. Private burial will be held at Mount Vernon Cemetery.
