Dr. Edgar C. Cordero, 87, of Bridgeville, formerly of Elizabeth Township, passed away Monday, March 2, 2026.  Born November 5, 1938 in San Carlos, Philippines, he was one of eleven children to the late Eugenio and Adelina (Cortazar) Cordero.  Edgar studied pre-med at The University of San Agustin and later attended The University of Santo Thomas for Medical School. Edgar completed his four-year residency in general surgery and general practice at St. Paul's Hospital in Ilo Ilo City, Philippines.

He immigrated to The United States in 1967 to serve a one-year internship at the former Columbia Hospital in Wilkinsburg, PA where he met his wife, Margie.  Edgar’s career took him to Prince George Medical Center in Cheverly, MD, Highland Park General Hospital in Highland Park MI, Park Community and Brent General Hospitals in Detroit, MI, and then McKeesport Hospital in McKeesport, PA in 1974.  He later established his own practice in Donora, PA in 1978, began operating primarily out of Monongahela Valley Hospital, and earned surgical privileges with Forbes Hospital, McKeesport Hospital, and Jefferson Hospital.  A member of The American Medical Association, Pennsylvania Medical Society, Allegheny County Medical Society, and Philippine-American Medical Society, Edgar retired in 2008 after 35 years of service in health care.

Edgar was a devout Catholic, a man of deep faith, and was known to attend Mass every Sunday, even on vacation. He was a former member of Mary Mother of God Parish, St. Angela Merici and was most recently a member of Corpus Christi Parish and attended Holy Child Church in Bridgeville. Edgar loved gathering with family and friends, trying new restaurants of all varieties, and watching sports and movies.  He enjoyed cars, playing mahjong, poker, and also had a love for tennis and bowling.  Later, he became the Wii bowling champion at his senior living community. A proud Pittsburgh Steelers season ticket holder since 1983, he loved his team along with his children’s college teams.

Edgar supported those he loved: his family, patients, friends and neighbors, whether it be professionally or just a simple wave hello. He was a true family man who loved his wife, children, grandchildren and all his family in The Philippines and United States. He will be greatly missed. 

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Margaret "Margie" (Bryan) Cordero;  son, Dr. Marc (Laura) Cordero and their daughter, Maggie Cordero; daughter, Melissa (Chesley) Hunter and children, Margaret Ashland and Jane Walker Yonce; daughter, Natalie (Scott) Campbell and their children, Adelina and Spencer Campbell; son, Kevin (Leslie) Cordero and their children, Cooper and Colin Cordero; brothers, Zafiro Cordero, William Cordero and Franklin Cordero; brother-in-law, Howard (Karen) Bryan; and many nieces and nephews.  There will not be a visitation.  A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Child Church, 212 Station St., Bridgeville, PA 15017 at a later date to be announced in late Spring/ Early Summer. Inurnment will be held at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in McMurray.  Arrangements are by the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 6028 Smithfield Street, Boston, Elizabeth Township (412) 751-5000 Drew J.
