McInerney Woodson
Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | April 19, 2026
McInerney Woodson, 96 of McKeesport, PA, was born January 1, 1930, in Pittsburgh, PA. She was the beloved daughter of the late John H. King and Hattie Mae (Lamar) King.
She grew up in the Upper Hill District, known as Schenley Heights or as many referred to it..."Sugar Top." She was a curious and active child, loving sports and belonging to the Girl Scouts, attending camp as well as going to church. She attended Madison Elementary, Herron Hill Junior High, and Schenley High School, meeting many lifetime friends and acquaintances.
She also did not want for playmates as she was one of twelve children; three girls and nine boys. Besides McInerney, they were James, Walter, John, Thomas, Ann, Charles, Otis, Roy, William, Joseph, and Hattie. All but Hattie preceded her in death. It stands to reason that with a crew like this, many nieces, nephews, grands, and great grands were produced in this wondrous family.
While in Pittsburgh, McInerney worked for the Veterans' Hospital Food Service for many years. Shortly after moving to McKeesport, she opened the Theatre Bar, which, because of her, became "a place to go." It was not just for the music and the drinks and the all around comradery; It was for the steak and fish sandwiches, which people came from far and near to get. WOW, remember the days! There were many events which included special parties, a DJ night, and live jazz performances, such as Rodney McCoy on that magnificent violin.
McInerney enjoyed people. It's a good reason why she loved sports; not just to watch, but to play. She played volleyball with a force, played golf, hitting from the men's tees, softball, and swimming were also on the menu. She won many trophies justifiably, because she was awesome. By involving herself with and in sports, she got to meet people, something she loved. She was a kind, thoughtful, and giving lady who helped many. You guys know it. She will be missed. McInerney departed this life peacefully on April 7, 2026, at her residence in McKeesport, PA. She is survived by her loving children, Theodore Woodson of Pittsburgh. PA, Rhonda L. Woodson and Leslie {Frank/deceased) Truesdale, both of McKeesport, also extended family and friends.
