John Stewart, 93 formerly of North Huntingdon, fondly known by his friends as "Jack" died January 28, 2017 at the Southwestern Veteran Center in Pittsburgh. He was born August 29, 1923 in McKeesport.

 John was a veteran of WWII having proudly served in the U.S. Army and was a participant in the "Normandy Invasion Campaign".  He was a recipient of Meritorious Service Ribbon with a Bronze Star  and the Good Conduct Ribbon.  He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Disabled Veterans Association, the North Huntingdon Township Democratic Club and the Herminie Senior Citizen Group along with various hunting clubs. He was a lover of the outdoors and an avid hunter, enjoyed raising beagles and took every opportunity to go into the woods hunting.  He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Marie V. Stewart. He is survived by one daughter Yolanda M. Swartwood, two granddaughters, Vera Marie Campbell, husband Richard & B. K. Swartwood, grandson Bryan K. Swartwood III, wife Jeanne.  Four great-grandchildren BrianJ. Campbell, Tiffany K. Curry, Krista M. Boyd, husband Christopher and Bryan K. Swartwood IV, Six great great grandchildren, David and Dominique Campbell, Casey, Joshua, & Caleb Curry and Alexander T. Boyd.  Five Nephews Duane, Daniel, William & James Stewart and Lynn Hoffman. Three nieces, Gail Newman, Deborah Stewart, and Stephanie Brant.  Visitation will take place at 10AM with a service to follow at 11AM on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home, Clay Pike, North Huntingdon.  Burial will be private at Westmoreland Memorial Park.  The family would like to give a "Special Thanks" in appreciation and gratitude for the services, help, kindness and compassion that were shown not only to John but his family by Southwestern Veterans Center in Pittsburgh.  www.shirleyfuneralhome.com
