Myrna Lou Reynolds

Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory

Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | January 02, 2019

Myrna Lou Reynolds (nee Smith) passed away naturally in the early hours of December 30 at her home in Glassport at the age of 86. Through a life defined by family, friends and conversation, Myrna welcomed all to her table to share stories, gossip and laughter over several pots of weak coffee. Myrna was born October 23, 1932 in Bunola, along the Monongahela River. A steadfast and formidable partner to Louis Reynolds (passed away April 29,  2000), Myrna joined him in Glassport after their marriage in 1954.

Beloved mother of Thomas D. Reynolds (Karen) of Glassport and Louis J. Reynolds (Kirsi Jansa) of Pittsburgh , revered and treasured grandmother of Tanya Reynolds (Scott Stahl) of Cleveland, OH, and Jacqui Reynolds (partner Kevin Gallagher) of Swissvale. An active community advocate and ubiquitous Mon Valley presence, Myrna retired from her work in the office of Congressman Joseph Gaydos (D-PA). She volunteered at the Glassport polls each election and connected with like minded locals at social clubs and gatherings. Myrna served on the supervisory committee at Copper and Glass Federal Credit Union, and was a past officer at the Sons of Italy in Glassport.Through the years, she offered loyal support to her family, hosting friends, teammates and colleagues of her sons and granddaughters - and always ensuring everyone was well fed. She loved spending summer days at the family fishing camp in West Virginia, watching the river, sipping whiskey & Coke and laughing long into the night. Her home in the center of Glassport provided the perfect vantage point for people watching, and she took care to trim her moonflowers every morning for added curb appeal. Her boisterous nature charmed everyone she spoke to, and her laugh was infectious, even when the laughter was at your own expense. She was a stable presence, a matriarch, a reluctant but ardent lover of cats. Myrna loved fiercely and deeply, and family and friends will cherish the memories left behind. Preceded in death by parents Delbert and Loretta Lonksoski Smith, sister Loretta “Cissie” (Ross) Mehrmann and brother Rolland Smith (Dorothy), Myrna is survived by younger brother Darrell Smith (Gayle) of Oil City and dear sister Sheryll (Allan) Foremsky of Elizabeth. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 1:00-5:00 pm in the Sons of Italy, 101 6th Street, Glassport. Arrangements are by Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 6028 Smithfield Street, Boston, Elizabeth Township. (412) 751-5000 Drew J. Gilbert, Director.
