George A. Pavel, age 88, of McKeesport, died June 24, 2019, at UPMC McKeesport. Born March 16, 1931, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Albert and Anna (Kapinus) Pavel and the husband of Virginia E. (Wiater) Pavel, for over 66 years

George retired from U.S. Steel, National Tube Works and served as the Grievance Committee Chairman for U.S. Steelworkers Union, Local 1408. He was a graduate of McKeesport High School. George was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Germany during the Korean War. He was a member of the White Oak American Legion Post # 701, Amvets, East McKeesport VFW Post # 8430, and the Polish National Alliance # 352 McKeesport.
In addition to his wife, George is survived by his sons, Gary G. (Denise) Pavel of White Oak and George J. (Christine) Pavel of Wheaton, IL; grandchildren, David, Trisha (Eric) Biel, Kristie (Matthew) Abell, Joseph and Emily; great-grandchildren, Rylee and Mila; also nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his son, David; daughter-in-law, Patricia L. (White) Pavel; sister, Priscilla Braun.
Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Thursday, June 27, 2019, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be celebrated on Friday, 10 a.m., in the funeral home chapel. Committal will follow in New St. Joseph's Cemetery.
