Joseph Gioia, 55, of Elizabeth Twp, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2016 at John J. Kane Regional Center - McKeesport. He was a union master electrician for Local No. 5 in Pittsburgh. The humble family patriarch, Joe enjoyed archery hunting, fishing, and taking his collector's edition Trans Am to car shows. He was a member of St. Michael Parish in Elizabeth Twp.

Joe was best known as a husband, family man, sportsman, hard worker, animal lover, and jokestar. He was the father to six children, though only biologically the father of one of them. He was the father that he didn't have to be. He always had a smile on his face and a kind word to everyone he met. He loved to sit back in his chair and pet one of his dogs, Rocky and Chloe, or one of his cats, Bailey and Gus, watching any Pittsburgh sports team. When the weather was nice, he would take his beloved Trans Am out for a spin. It's surreal the way it all took place, as though he planned it himself. Family had arrived from all over and sat at his bedside sharing stories and laughter amongst tears. It was time. He was ready to be at peace, even if we weren't ready to let him go. His fight with cancer is over and he can now relax in the great tree stand in the sky. He is our Guardian Angel and will be watching over us. Wish you were here. Born April 14, 1961 in McKeesport, he was a son of Helen (Budd) Gioia of Buena Vista and the late Michael Gioia. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 13 years, Carol  (Steindl) Gioia; son, Brandon Gioia of Buena Vista, daughter, Mandy (Traci Little) Tipton of NC, daughter, Laura Tipton of NC, son, Brian (Amy) Dinello of Belle Vernon, daughter, Lisa (Luke) Leyh of Washington, D.C., and daughter, Angela (B.J.) Schneider of AZ; six grandchildren, Gabby, Alexa, Jayson, Liam, Nevaeh, and Michael; brothers, Angelo (Maureen) Gioia of Elizabeth Twp and Michael (Kathy) Gioia of Versailles; also, cousins. Friends will be received in the Paul E. Bekavac Funeral Home, Elizabeth, on Thursday, June 2, 2016 from 6-8:00 p.m. and Friday, June 3, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A Blessing will take place on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. in the Paul E. Bekavac Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Wagner officiating. Burial will follow in Round Hill Cemetery, Elizabeth Twp. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to John J. Kane Regional Center - McKeesport, 100 9th Ave., McKeesport, PA 15132; the Hillman Cancer Center, 5115 Centre Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15232; or Prime Time Adult Care, 44 Highland Road, Bethel Park, PA 15102.
