Harry Herbert Smith, 93, lifelong resident of McKeesport, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, April 10, 2020.
Born on August 29, 1926, he was the son of the late Norton (John) Smith and Esther (Louise) Alm. He was a graduate of McKeesport Senior High School. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, Company D, 18th Infantry of the Big Red One Division. He owned a grocery store and deli in Highland Grove after returning home. He worked at National Tube, Continental Can Company, and G. C. Murphy’s Computer Center. He enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling, and watching Pittsburgh and West Virginia University sports. He was a member of the White Oak American Legion, Post 701, and a member of AARP. He is survived by his daughters, Elaine, Charleston, West Virginia, Karen, McKeesport, a sister, Audrey Thomas of Santa Ana, California, Elaine’s fiancé, Scott Robertson, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife of 54 years, Mary, brother, Millard and his wife, Joan, sister, Dorothy, and her husband, John, brother, Ted, and his wife Rosemary, brother Bill, and his wife June, brother-in-law, Rolland Thomas, brother-in-law John O’Hare, sister-in-law Isabelle Sallinger, sister-in-law, Sally and her husband, Emmy McCafferty, nephews Jack O’Hare, Robert McCafferty, Dale McCafferty, and Rick Sallinger, and niece, Faye Keifer. William H. Craig Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a memorial will take place in the future. Interment will be at Round Hill Cemetary in Elizabeth, Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to any veteran’s charities, animal rescue group, or cancer research.
