Veronica Marie Pearson Huwalt, 90, of Lincoln Borough, died Thursday, May 14, 2020 at home, under the care of her loving family.  

A most strong and courageous woman who never complained about anything, “Ron” or “Roni” was a longtime cancer survivor who also endured many years with Alzheimer's disease.

Wife of 70 years to the late Alfred J. "Ike" Huwalt, Jr. Cherished mother of Patrice H. Bennett, Mark A. Huwalt, Lynne M. (Michael) Mercilliott, and Lisa H. (Jeff) Lampo. Adored grandmother of Ian (Bridget O'Neil) Bennett, Mark (Elaine) Bennett, Sean (Stephanie) Mercilliott, Kevin Mercilliott, Matthew Atwood, Jesse Huwalt, Brenden Lampo; and great-grandmother of Elizabeth, Helena, and Patrick Bennett. Loving sister of Dolores Burgman; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Veronica was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred "Ike" J. Huwalt, Jr., in January of 2020, daughter in-law, Lynn A. Huwalt, parents, Joshua Samuel "Sam" and Mary Leschak Pearson, and her brother, Samuel Pearson.

A graduate of McKeesport High School, Veronica was a former member of St. Eugene Church in Liberty Borough and its Christian Mothers.

Ron was a highly energetic, kind and popular woman beloved by all who knew her. Her career in retailing included sales at Immel's and The Famous in McKeesport, and the Juniors Department at Gimbels in Eastland Mall from when they opened until they closed. Roni loved to bowl and belonged to several leagues in the area. Her other talents included intricate and delicate macramé knots, creating hanging tables, lamps and planters, and she belonged to a card club for many years.With an especial love for children, Ron was a favorite mother in her neighborhood. She taught all the kids how to jump rope, and how to play hopscotch and jacks. She joined them in sled riding. She was the queen paddle ball player and no one could match her count.

Roni loved the sunshine and took pleasure in weeding her flowers and pruning her shrubs. She loved spending time with her family in Florida and assisting her son-in-law Mike with his many projects. Swimming was a special treat.

Also know as Gram, Grams, Gramzee and Great Gramzey, she loved spending time with her grandsons, playing with and chauffeuring them as well as volunteering for, and visiting, their classrooms. Her great grandchildren were especially dear to her heart.   

Called Mum or Mama by her children, Veronica Marie Pearson Huwalt always put others first. She will also be remembered for her high energy, laugh, and great sense of humor. She will be very sadly missed.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Meals on Wheels, and UPMC Hospice for its services and staff, especially the faithful Juliet and the wise and caring Danielle.

Services are Private due to COVID-19 protocol and have been entrusted into the care of JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, INC., 301 Curry Hollow Rd., Pleasant Hills, 15236. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later time when family and friends are able to gather. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Veronica's honor to Meals on Wheels, Alzheimer's Association Pittsburgh Office, University of Pittsburgh Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
