Mary Almetta Singleton–Randall
Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | September 16, 2020
Mary Almetta Singleton–Randall was born on September 6, 1932 in Blythedale, Pa., to the late Joseph and Chosie Helena-Edwards Stoutamire. She triumphantly gained her wings and slipped peacefully away on Thursday, September 10, 2020, at UPMC East Hospital a few days after celebrating her 88th birthday.
Almetta, as she was known by many, held various jobs during her working career in Pennsylvania and Maryland utilizing her many talents which included workings as an accountant at Cox’s Department Store, McKeesport PA. Years later, she utilized her great culinary skills as a cook at the University of Maryland in College Park Maryland (UMPC), where she retired in late 1990.
McKeesport was home for Almetta which is where she returned after her retirement from UMCP to care for her only sister Anna Long, who precedes her in death. She attended Ebenezer Baptist Church in Blythedale and Christ Temple AME Church in McKeeport PA.
Almetta loved people, family gatherings, playing cards, BINGO and the Casino. Many will remember her as their winning pinnacle and Bid-Whist partner; her joyful and fun spirit at family functions and her zeal to win in Poker. Her spirit will live on in the lives she touched as a devoted mother, loyal sister, wonderful grand and great grandmother, aunt and equally important, a special friend to many. She leaves all to wonder the secret ingredients in her Ghetto Sangria, a.k.a. JJ Juice.
She is preceded in death by both her parents, two late husband’s: Abraham Singleton and Horace Randall, two brothers Edward Lee and Joe Nathan Stoutamire Sr. and sister Anna Louise Stoutamire-Long. Not to leave out, her extended beloved pet family Gray Cat Alexander and Casey Randall.
She leaves to mourn after her passing seven children: Abraham G Singleton, Cathy Singleton-(Jerome) Turner and pet Sadie Girl, Author Young all of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, John (Pam) Singleton of West Bloomfield, Michigan, Shelley Scott of Acworth, Georgia, Chosie Singleton, of Bowie, Maryland and David (Saundra)Singleton of Laurel Maryland.
