Michael P. Carnahan, age 51, of Mt. Vernon, died January 13, 2021, at UPMC McKeesport. Born December 27, 1969, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late David E. and Mary Jane (Matuschek) Carnahan and the husband and best friend of Sandra (Buotte) Carnahan.

Michael was vice-president and general manager of Scalo Solar Solutions, a division of Burns & Scalo Roofing. He most recently completed the installation of the largest single sloped solar structure in the United States, located at Mill 19 in Hazelwood.

He was a member of Saints Joachim and Anne Parish of Elizabeth. Michael was a US Marine Corps. veteran serving in the Second Battalion 10th Division, stationed at Camp Lejeune. He attended the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C. and was a member of the Master Gardner program of Penn State. He received his solar certification from the NABCEP. Michael was a member of the Mt. Vernon Lions Club and a frequent volunteer with the McKeesport Regional Historical Society History and Heritage Center.   He was a volunteer at Angora Gardens and Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. He had a passion for green tech sustainability and rewilding native species of plants. Michael spent his last few years restoring old houses with his son Michael and following his son Gavin's various roles in theater.
In addition to his mother and wife, Michael is survived by his sons, Michael J. Carnahan of Athens, OH, and Gavin E. Carnahan of Elizabeth; brother, David G. (Jennifer) Carnahan of Phoenix, AZ; sisters-in-law, Maria Witt, and Paula (Roseann) Carnahan-Kuhns; nieces and nephews, Patrick, Megan, Olivia, Nathaniel, William, Liam, Colin, and Dylan; also many cousins, extended family, and friends.
Along with his father, Michael was also preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Brian Carnahan, and sister-in-law, Lisa Schwaed.
Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, 10 a.m., at St. Michael Church of Elizabeth. Inurnment will follow in Mt Vernon Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, to the Michael Carnahan Memorial Fund, at 1 Schenley Dr., Pittsburgh, PA 15213.
