Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | May 23, 2021

Matthew C. Morgan, age 61, of Buena Vista, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2021, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.  Born April 17, 1960, in Brockton, MA, he was the son of Virginia (Reed) Morgan, and the late George W. Morgan, Jr.

Matt was an athletic kid and won numerous punt, pass, kick competitions.  His football skills would eventually take him to Tempe, AZ, where he went on to play football for the Arizona State University Sun Devils.  After college, his father-in-law got him a job working for the gas company, and Matt eventually retired as a Station Engineer with Peoples Gas after 32 years.  Always a sports fan, he would root for Penn State Football, the Steelers, and Boston Celtics and was one of the biggest Larry Bird fans.  He kept active by lifting weights in his home gym or fishing various streams, rivers, and lakes around Western Pennsylvania.  As an animal lover, he always had numerous dogs, parrots, and even lizards around the home.  Matt was loyal to his Brockton, MA, roots and always hoped to one day return and live in the town where he was born.  He was a selfless man, willing to help family, friends, strangers, or anyone in need. The main thing about Matt that will be remembered besides loving his family before himself is a leader, protector, and provider. He always loved to make people laugh. Matt loved God with all his heart and told everyone he could about Jesus. His heart was bigger than his muscles, too big ever to forget!
In addition to his mother, he is survived by son Brett (Kaitlen) Morgan; grandson Bennett Morgan, who affectionately referred to Matt as "Poppy"; sisters Kathleen Morgan, Pauline Meighan, and Julie (Barry "Buda") Pope; nieces and nephews Tanya Morgan, Nicholas Meighan, Logan Pope, Morgan Pope, Laila Pope, and Noah Pope; great-nephew Hunter Ryan and great-nieces Sydalia Wygant and Lorelei Skonsky.
Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Monday, May 24, 2021, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.  The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.  Burial will follow at All Saints Braddock Catholic Cemetery.
