Richard P. Sobek, age 73, of White Oak, died December 28, 2021, at home.  Born January 10, 1948, in North Versailles, he was the son of the late John and Anna (Zayc) Sobek.

Demonstrating a passion for art as a young boy, he was selected while in elementary school to attend fine art classes at Carnegie Institute, now Carnegie Mellon University.  Later in life, he attended and graduated from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh.  Richard was drafted during the Vietnam War and first served in the U.S. Army in the artillery, USATC, HQ Battery, and then with the Defense Intelligence Agency/Defense Intelligence School in Washington D.C. until his honorable discharge.  He also served in the U.S. Army Reserves with the 3DPSYOPS.  Using his GI Bill, he also graduated from an FAA-approved aircraft mechanics school, "Airframe" certified to aide and advance himself in one of his positions as an aircraft draftsman.  For 45 years, he held professional positions as a visual information specialist, illustrator, draftsman, graphic designer, and photographer with various government, corporate, and private industries.  Richard was also active in multiple sports, including swimming (USATC HQ swim and track teams), Marathon and high altitude runs in Colorado, martial arts instructor, and a tryout for the USFL as a punter.  He was currently preparing to publish an international educational book for the blind and an international solo show sharing his diverse fine art creations.
