A much-loved daughter, sister, aunt and friend, Darlene Susan Johnston, 64, died on April 12, 2026. She was born on April 9, 1962 in McKeesport to Bernice (Lapinsky) Johnston and the late Charles E ‘Chick’ Johnston. After graduating from the top of her class from McKeesport High School in 1980 she continued her education at University of Pittsburgh obtaining her Bachelor of Science Degree with High Honors.
She began her employment with the FBI in Washington DC and later worked for Eastern Airlines based out of Washington International. Darlene accepted a position while in Washington as an executive administrative assistant to Marshal B. Coyne, a noted financier, developer, philanthropist, and confidant to several US Presidents and Foreign Dignitaries. She retired from her position and returned to live with her beloved mother Bernice. Darlene was much loved by her mother for whom she was a helpful companion. She was an avid reader and loved to bake, with her mother and for others. She will be remembered for her kind and generous heart.
Darlene was preceded in death by her father, who adored her. She is survived by her mother, Bernice Johnston, Chambersburg, PA; her brothers, Dale Johnston, McKeesport; Brian (Karen) Johnston, Chambersburg; her sister Kimberly (Todd) Dunn; nieces and a nephew who meant a great deal to her and filled her life with joy; Lindsay Johnston, Erin (Gunner) Goldie, Logan Dunn, Taylor Dunn (Zach Connor), Caleigh Johnston, Jocelyn Dunn, and great nephew, Gunner John Goldie.
The love by her family remains eternal. God Bless Darlene.
