Barbara A. (Underwood) Strachan, 83, of Irwin, died peacefully Sunday October 16, 2016, at Redstone Highlands, Greensburg. She was born December 23, 1932 in Monongahela, a daughter of the late Howard Clark and Sarah Elizabeth (Gillie) Underwood. She was an Elder in the First Presbyterian Church, Irwin, and was a member of the choir. She was an avid bowler, a former den mother and homeroom mother, and having been a Registered Nurse prior to raising her family she was known as the “neighborhood nurse” to the children of the neighborhood.

Her greatest joy in life was her family. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her husband of sixty three years, Gordon D. Strachan; her sons, Rev. Dr. Robert D. Strachan and his wife Deborah of Batesburg, SC, and William C. Strachan and his wife Beth of Haymarket, VA; four grandchildren; a great granddaughter; also nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the William Snyder Funeral Home Inc., 521 Main Street, Irwin, 724-863-1200. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Dr. Ronald H. Wakeman, officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery.
