Strifflers Family Funeral Homes

Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | October 15, 2023

It is with profound sadness, Sydney Ann Allenberg (Kleya) passed away with her family by her side on October 14, 2023 in Pittsburgh, PA. Born on September 22, 1990 in Pittsburgh, PA, Sydney was the beloved daughter of Michael “Boe” and Honi (Mendlowitz) Kleya. A few years later, Sydney became the loving sister of Jacob Kleya of Monroeville and Nathan (Rebecca Schorr) Kleya of McMurray. Sydney is predeceased by her father, Michael “Boe” Kleya, maternal grandfather, Sylvan Mendlowitz, and paternal grandparents, Julius and Helen (Przybyla) Kleya. She is survived by her mother, siblings, maternal grandmother, Blossom Mendlowitz, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Upon her graduation from Gateway Senior High School in 2009, Sydney attended Carlow University. She graduated with her Bachelor’s degree studying criminology and sociology, and began working in property management at JLL. Recently, Sydney became a graduate of the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) Radiology Technician program, and she, proudly, worked as an X-ray technician at Penn Highlands Hospital, Mon Valley. Sydney sought adventure, and she was always quick to try something new, especially when accompanied by family and friends. Her love for music, color guard, comedy, and storytelling were evident by her love for musicals (particularly Wicked), and she expressed these characteristics often through attending performances, and her willingness to break into song at any given point. Sydney was a proud member at Excel and Pittsburgh Performance Project.

Sydney was a selfless giver, evident by her active and proud membership at Temple David (Monroeville, PA), where she formerly led religious classes to children, so the next generation has access to the same religious experience in which she held so dear. After Sydney’s diagnosis with multiple sclerosis (MS) in 2016, she lived a life full of community and purpose. Sydney raised awareness to MS through her participation and leadership in Walk MS group (Sydney’s Peeps).

Sydney’s greatest joys in life were spending time with her family and friends, whether it was an adventure across the country or just to the local store. She will be remembered for her vivacious personality, kindness, great humor, selflessness, and ambition. She brought light to every room she walked in to, and her memory will continue to shine.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, October 16, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Tree of Life Cemetery, 732 Center Street Versailles, PA 15132. Arrangements are being handled by Strifflers of White Oak Cremation and Mortuary Services, Inc., 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA, 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, Supervisor, 412-678-6177).
