Philip A. "Buddy" O'Connell, 89, of Glassport, died Saturday, October 29, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 2, 1926 in Glassport and was the son of the late Daniel Patrick and Gertrude Elizabeth Wolf O'Connell. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth Jane Scripko O'Connell who died November 11, 2007. They were married August 4, 1948. Philip was a WWII US Army Veteran.

For his service he received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Army of Occupation Ribbon (Japan), Victory Ribbon, and 1 Overseas Service Bar. He was retired from US Steel Irvin Works. "Buddy" enjoyed Woodwork, Leather crafting and reading. He is survived by his children, Stephanie Jane (Terry A.) Cochran, Mary Louise (Robert) Stewart, Cecelia Cummings, Philip F. O'Connell, David J. O'Connell, Sharon A. (Ron) Fritchey, Carolyn J. (Robert J.) Ehrin, and Timothy R. (Doriann M.) O'Connell, 30 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathleen Marie O'Connell and brothers, Daniel and Francis O'Connell. Friends are welcome Tuesday November 1 from 2-4 and 6-8:00 pm at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Michael's Parish on Wednesday November 2 at 1:00 pm. with Rev. Thomas Wagner, officiating.
