Winona Bintrim Olah, 91, formerly of McKeesport, Port Vue, North Huntingdon, and Vernon Township, Pennsylvania, passed away on December 25th, 2023, at Rolling Fields Elder Care in Conneautville, Pennsylvania.

She was born on May 30, 1932, in New Castle, Pennsylvania. She was the only daughter of Wilber Edward and Mabel Eliza Bintrim Porter. After having lived in several different Western Pennsylvania locations, she and her family settled in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. She graduated from McKeesport High School in 1950. After graduation, she began working for G.C. Murphy’s Company as a salesclerk in the local McKeesport store.

Winona eventually worked her way up to working as a bookkeeper in the Merchandise Control Office of the company’s headquarters, which was also located in McKeesport. She married her husband, Donald Endre’ Olah, in 1952, and they resided for a time in Port Vue, PA. In 1964 the family moved to North Huntingdon Township. Winona was very involved with church activities. She was a charter member of Christ United Methodist Church, where she served in many different leadership positions, including the Administrative Council and the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee. She was instrumental in many fundraising activities.

One that was very special to her was the project to generate funds for the erection of a new church steeple. She also served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. and served as Sunday School Superintendent for several years. For 30 years, Winona was a driver and delivery person for McKeesport Area Meals on Wheels.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a Past Worthy Matron of Old Glory Chapter #270, serving in that position in 1967.  When the Old Glory Chapter was deactivated, she became a member of Irwin Chapter #400. She was also a member of the North Huntingdon AARP and enjoyed taking trips with her friends. In 2015, she moved to Vernon Township to be closer to her son and daughter in law, who reside in the Meadville, Pennsylvania area.

She attended Harmonsburg United Methodist Church, where she was an Associate Member while remaining a charter member of Christ United Methodist Church. In her leisure time, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, watching and cheering for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Steelers, and Pirates, and solving crosswords, jigsaws, and other puzzles. She loved quilting and created many fine quilts together with her mother.

Winona was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Edward Wilber Porter, and a niece, Sonja Winona Neils. She is survived by her son Donald Olah, her daughter-in-law Teresa Olah, and a nephew, Glenn Porter.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by WAID-COLEMAN FUNERAL HOME, 12422 CONNEAUT LAKE RD., CONNEAUT LAKE where visitation will be on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 from 5-7 p.m. with an Eastern Star service at 6:30 p.m. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church in North Huntingdon, with Pastor Deborah L. Kociban officiating.

Interment will be at Mount Vernon Cemetery, McKeesport, PA, immediately following the service.
