James W. Wood

Willig Funeral Home & Crematory

Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | September 18, 2024

James W. "Jimbo" Wood, age 82, of McKeesport, died September 16, 2024, at Kane Community Living Center in McKeesport.  Born March 1, 1942, in Sewickley Twp., he was the son of the late James C. and Anna (Jury) Wood and was the beloved husband of 41 years to Alice (Kontur) Wood.
James dedicated much of his life to hard work, starting in the mill and later at Good Neighbor Car Wash, where he eventually retired from.  His passion for cars, particularly Chevys, was evident in the countless hours he spent tinkering and fixing them alongside his best friend, Danny.  Their shared love for cars created a bond that endured through the years.

In his spare time, James collected Die Cast antique cars and anything adorned with a Bald Eagle, symbols that held special meaning to him.  Trips to the casino and the excitement of lottery tickets brought him moments of thrill.  While fishing was a cherished pastime in his younger years, James found peace and relaxation in listening to opera music and excitement in watching wrestling.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Denise (Adrian) Allen and James (Christina) Wood; grandchildren, Adrian Jr. (Nichole) Allen, Dennis (Lashonya) Allen, Barbara (Jeremy) Smith, Joshua Wood, Summer Wood, Christina Williams, Tiffiny Williams, Marcus Williams, and Brandon Williams; great-grandchildren, Ayden, Janelle, Amir, Landon, Daniel, Jacob, Salvatore, and Gabriella; siblings, Barry (Debbie) Wood, Marie Colebank, Linda Van Dyke, and Joann (Tony) Casoni.  He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Wood, and brother, John Wood.
Family and friends will be received at Willig Funeral Home & Crematory on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.  The funeral service will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.  The burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Cemetery.  Condolences and memories may be shared at www.willigfuneralcremationsevices.com.
