Robert Thornton Swauger

Willig Funeral Home & Crematory

Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | December 01, 2016

Robert Thornton Swauger, Sr. age 94, of McKeesport, died Nov. 29, 2016, at his home. Born Oct. 15, 1922, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Marshall and Sadie Mae (Thornton) Swauger and the husband of the late Vera May (Wilson) Swauger.
Robert was a W.W. II veteran and fought in the Battle of Anzio. He was awarded the Purple Heart. After his service, Robert returned home and went to work for the McKeesport Water Authority. Upon retirement, he took up a new job description, that of family guardian, and he took it quite seriously.

Each household would receive fresh batteries annually for smoke detectors and none went unfitted with carbon monoxide detectors. He was the perfect chaperone and confidant for his beloved grandchildren. A perfectionist by nature, he did fine home remodeling for all of his children.
Survivors include children, Robert T. Jr (Debbie), Ronald T. (Debbie) and Kenneth C. (Florence); grandchildren, Ronald T. Jr (Tiffany), Jennie S. (Mark) Taylor, Brett D. (Elizabeth), Kenneth Jr (Cassandra), Katie (Justin), Jessica (Zac), Robert T. III (Sherry), Ryan T. (Charlene) and Kevin C. (Allison); 16 great grandchildren; brother, Marshall Swauger; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Marge Starmack and Sally Lesniewski; brothers, Thomas and baby Richard.
Family and friends will be received Friday, from 2-4 and 7-9 at Willig Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Saturday, 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Robert’s grandson, Brett Swauger will lead the service. Interment will follow in Jefferson Memorial Park.
