Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | April 25, 2025
United States Military Veteran Norman Ray Anderson ("Norm"), son of the late Laymon H. Anderson and Genevieve Lockette Anderson, was born on August 18, 1934, in Uledi, PA, a small community west of Uniontown, PA. He served in the United States Army during the years of 1957-1959 and was released with an honorable discharge. After a lengthy battle with debilitating cognitive issues extending more than a decade, Norm experienced a rapid and fatal decline and departed this earthly life on Thursday, April 17, 2025 at Kane Regional Center in
McKeesport, PA. He was a member of Covenant Church of Pittsburgh in the early 2000s. Norm's first love was music. Once appearing on The Ed Sullivan Show in New York City as a vocalist, Norm was the consummate entertainer. He performed throughout Western Pennsylvania in his spare time as a jazz vocalist and
percussionist with a local band of fellow musicians. As a hardcore fan of his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers, Norm often claimed that "black and gold" was in his blood. Norm not only loved watching sports but stayed active and participated in sports even into his senior years. He enjoyed playing golf and loved to run track -
so much so that he participated in the Summer Senior Track and Field Olympics in
2009 in Harrisburg, PA.
Norm was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Carolyn K. Anderson. He is
survived by their daughter, Bethany Anderson; Bethany's son, Malachi M.; Carolyn's son, Curtis Broom (Lisa) and their children, Alicia B., Devin B., and DaVontae H. Norm is also survived by the children of his previous marriage (Mae); Sheila Anderson, Robert Anderson, and Anthony Anderson; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Owen Anderson and Marvin Anderson. Norm was preceded in death by his siblings: Richard Anderson, Laymon Anderson, Jr., James Anderson, William Anderson, Clinton D. Anderson, Yvonne (Anderson)
Lawrence, Genevieve (Anderson) Davis, Betty (Anderson) Fairfax, Phyllis (Anderson) Ramsey and Lorraine (Anderson) Tarpley. Friends and family are asked to arrive at the Willig Funeral Home and Crematory,
220 9th Street, McKeesport, PA, 15132 on Friday, May 16th at 11:00am for the funeral procession. This will be a military dedication for Norman at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies starting promptly at 12:30pm. In lieu of flowers, a charitable donation to the Alzheimer's Association (https://www.alz.org) and/or the Foundation for Women's Cancer (FWC) (https://foundationforwomenscancer.org) would be greatly appreciated.
