Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | February 05, 2026

Dorothy I. "Dot" Hurley, age 84 of White Oak, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 in Forbes Hospital, Monroeville.  Born February 21, 1941 in McKees Rocks, she was the daughter of the late John William and Alma I. (Smith) Haas, Jr.  A member of Mary, Mother of God Parish, Dorothy retired after 26+ years as a chief payroll clerk with the Port Authority on the North Side.  If you ever encountered Gam, also known as Mom, Dot, or Mima, it was always met with a smile. She loved traveling the world with her family, playing cards, and simply sitting back and people-watching. It was as if she never met a stranger. She had a way of talking to anyone and making you feel like she’d known you forever. She is already so deeply missed, and the void she leaves behind can never truly be filled.  Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the late Eugene A. "Gene" Hurley, her second mother who raised her Erma Haas, and two of her great-grandchildren: Elijah Carr and Emma Turner.  Dorothy is survived by her children William (Tammie) Hurley of Valdosta, GA, Cindy Lou Marr of Pittsburgh, and Cynthia (Allan) Carr of White Oak; her grandchildren Mika (Scottie) Brogdon, Ashley (Josh) Turner, Zachary (April) Hurley, Kayleigh (fiance' David Greenfeld) Bush, Theresa Marr, Michael Marr, Alicia (Chukky) Okobi, Ryan (Lauren) Carr, and Shane (Nandi Meade) Carr; her great-grandchildren Kinsley, Daniel, Brent, Hannah, Kaden, Tessa, Carter, Maddox, Ari, Dylan, and Ivi; her sister Phyllis (George) Geanopulos of Canonsburg; and also nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received in the Daniel F. Bekavac Funeral Home and Crematory, 4504 Walnut St., Versailles Borough, McKeesport, PA 15132 (412-678-3454) on Sunday, February 8, 2026 from 1 PM to 6 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 9, 2026 at 10 AM in Mary, Mother of God Parish - St. Angela's Church, White Oak.  In memory of Dot, considering the help it gave her, her family would ask that you consider making a donation of your blood at your local blood bank. It really does help and really can save lives.  www.bekavacfuneralhome.com
