Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | February 19, 2026

Janet "Sis" Penick, 91, of McKeesport, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2026, at UPMC East Hospital. Born to the late Henry and Louise Schank, Janet lived a life rooted in devotion to family and the simple joys that made each day special. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Pete Penick, with whom she shared 72 years of marriage, and her daughter, Kathleen Delivuk; brother, Henry (Marlene) Schank Jr. and sister Audrey (Donald) Argyle.

She is survived by her beloved children, Janet Merk, Sharon (Joseph) Maxwell, and Peter Penick; and by her cherished grandchildren, Amy (Joseph) Chiaverini, David (Mellisa) Puskaric, Danyel Kelly, Brooke Kelly, Gary Keller Jr., Rachael Penick, and Sarah Penick; brother, Robert (Darice) Schank, and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind numerous great-grandchildren who were a constant source of pride and joy.

Janet had a true gift for cake decorating. She shared her talent while working at Tas-T Donut and Giant Eagle, but her most treasured creations were the doll cakes she lovingly made for her grandchildren's birthdays. Those cakes were more than dessert. They were traditions wrapped in frosting and care.

She also had a special fondness for her parakeets, often keeping them perched nearby and patiently teaching them simple phrases. Whether working on a crossword puzzle, completing a word search, or trying her luck with a scratch-off ticket, Janet found happiness in life's small, steady pleasures.

In accordance with Janet's wishes, no funeral service will be held. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the love and support shown during this time. Arrangements were entrusted to Willig Funeral Home & Crematory. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.willigfuneralcremationservices.com.
