Karen Lee Chokey, age 79, of The Woodlands, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, March 14, 2026.
Born on November 26, 1946, in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, Karen was raised in West Mifflin and was the daughter of the late Arthur Lawrence Hartos and Blanche Barbara Melcarsky Hartos. She attended Emerson Elementary School and Edison Junior High and graduated from West Mifflin North High School.
Karen had a lifelong love of staying active and especially enjoyed playing tennis and golf. She also found joy in reading, crossword puzzles, bowling, bingo, and trips to the casino. She appreciated good food and wine, and treasured time spent with her beloved rescue cats, Charlie and Yoda. Karen was proud to support numerous charitable causes and served as co-chair of the Cancer Society Ball in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
She is survived by her devoted husband, James Alexander Chokey, Sr.; her children, Jill (Laurie) Chokey Ramsier of Orlando, Florida, and James (Guinevere) Alexander Chokey, Jr. of Portland, Oregon; her brother, David (JoAnn) Hartos of Elizabeth, Pennsylvania; her niece, Jennifer Hartos Phinnick; her nephews, Alex Hartos and Brian Hartos; as well as great-nieces, great-nephews, and her sister-in-law, Leslie A. Hartos of Duquesne, Pennsylvania.
Family and friends are invited to gather and honor Karen’s memory on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Strifflers of White Oak Cremation and Mortuary Services, Inc., 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, Pennsylvania 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412-678-6177). A service will be held Wednesday, March 25, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, followed by burial at Round Hill Cemetery in Elizabeth, Pennsylvania.
