Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | April 21, 2026

Albert Mockabee, 93, of McKeesport, born in Connellsville, PA, was born on April 7, 1933.The beloved son of John Carl and Margie Toler Mockabee.
Albert didn’t graduate from high school because he was drafted into the United States Army to serve our country for two years. After returning from the Army, he married his first wife, Shirley Rebecca Johnson Mockabee, and they were gifted with 5 daughters together (Cheryl, Lorri, Tamra Deidre, and Jana). Albert worked as a patcher for US Steel Works in Clairton, PA, where he retired as an Assistant supervisor after 31 years of dedicated service. After retiring from US Steel Clairton works, he later went to work for Allegheny Intermediate Unit and Auberle as a Van Driver.
Albert was a 50+ year faithful member of Bethlehem Baptist Church of McKeesport, PA. Albert was active in Bethlehem Baptist Church and was a member of the Spiritual Light Choir, Inspirational Choir, Male Chorus, Senior Choir, Usher, and Van Ministries. One of his favorite songs was “Every Promise in the Book,” and he had his own way of directing the choir along with Minister Gina Huggins while he sang that song! We used to love to tease my Dad about swaying and clapping. We would say ok dad pick one, either SWAY or Clap! Of course, it did not matter to him as long as he was glorifying God. He always had a high regard for God’s word, he made sure to read scriptures daily, he enjoyed attending Bible Study and listening to the preached word.
Albert was the Patriarch of the Mockabee family and was lovingly known to others as “Mr. Mock”. Not only was he a God-Fearing man, but he was also a devoted, loving husband to his wife, Beverly Harper-Mockabee, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather who loved to put a smile on everyone’s face. He loved to joke around with everyone. To know him was to love him.
He was a HUGE Steelers fan, especially when it involved the long-time rivalry between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cleveland Browns. Each time the Steelers lost to the Browns, he would say ‘Man, those bums lost again! He loved spending time with family, traveling, and going to the “Rivers Casino”.
He was definitely a people person and loved talking to everyone he met. We would come across so many folks who would ask how your dad. We would ask each person, how do you know our dad, and each person had a different story to tell about how they met our father, and how he joked with them, made them laugh, and put a smile on their face.
Albert departed this life on April 15, 2026, at Forbes Hospital in Monroeville, PA, with his devoted wife of 22 years, Beverly Harper-Mockabee, by his side.
