Allan Nelson, 91, of Irwin passed away peacefully Thursday April 6, 2017, at his home. He was born January 23, 1926 in Kilmarnock, Scotland. He was a member of the Royal Army near the end of WWII and then served in the British Merchant Navy. He and his family came to the United States in 1968 and Allan retired from a successful career with Genuine Tool Co., Irwin after more than twenty five years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Irwin, and Shidle Lodge No. 601, Free and Accepted Masons, Irwin. He was an accomplished swimmer, golfer, woodworker, and loved his Scottish heritage, including bagpipe music, but he was proud to be an American and was an ardent Steelers fan.

He was the beloved husband of Isobel Nelson, his first love and wife of sixty three years; father of Mairi Pingel (James) of Harrison City, Kay Paul (David) of Fulton, NY, and Allan Gordon Nelson (Tara) of Rochester, NY; and grandfather of Alex and Eric Pingel and Angela Paul. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the William Snyder Funeral Home Inc., 521 Main Street, Irwin, 724-863-1200, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday with Dr. Ronald H. Wakeman, officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery. Shidle Lodge will conduct a masonic funeral service at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
