Richard James Svec, age 83, of North Huntingdon, died December 26, 2017, at Select Specialty, Montifiore Hospital. Born January 11, 1934, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Paul A. and Stella (Prizner) Svec and the husband of Gayle (Porter) Svec for 64 years.
Richard James Svec, age 83, of North Huntingdon, died December 26, 2017, at Select Specialty, Montifiore Hospital. Born January 11, 1934 in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Paul A. and Stella (Prizner) Svec and the husband of Gayle (Porter) Svec for 64 years.
Richard retired from the McKeesport Daily News where he worked as a printer. After retirement he worked at First Student in North Huntingdon. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Richard found his greatest joy in spending time with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren. He loved his pet dogs, Conner and Rocky, as well as his cat Milo. He enjoyed their mountain home, boating, and watching the birds, especially his favorite hummingbirds.
In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by daughter, Paula (John) Lydon of Bethel Park; sons, Richard (Kimberly) Svec, Jr. of Harveys Lake and Bruce (Cheryl Barbarino) Svec of Valencia, CA; grandchildren, Eric (Amanda Therrian) Svec, Maureen (Mike) Bilyeu, Daniel (Summer) Svec, Patrick (Joy Martin) Lydon, Kevin Svec, Bridget (Daniel McMurtrie) Lydon, Emily (Tyler Rhea) Svec; many nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and great nephews.
He was also preceded in death by brother, Robert Svec and sisters, Alice “Toots” Gossman and Margaret Hobby.
Family and friends will be received at Willig Funeral Home & Crematory on Friday, December 29, 2017 from 2-8 p.m. A celebration of Richard’s life will be officiated by Pastor William Meekins on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 11 a.m. in Wesley United Methodist Church; 1201 Prescott St, White Oak, PA 15131. A reception will immediately follow at R-Place restaurant, 102 Enterprise St, Elizabeth, PA 15037. Family and friends are asked to gather at the funeral home at 10 a.m.
