Mary R. Mayernik, age 92, of Scott Township, formerly of Elizabeth Township, passed away Monday, April 4, 2016 in Providence Point Nursing Center.

Born May 17, 1923 in Duquesne, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Anna (Brendza) Potoma. A retired secretary for U.S. Steel's Irvin Works in West Mifflin, who also worked at Carbidie, Mary was a parishioner at St. Michael Parish in Elizabeth Township. She attended Douglas Business School, was a member of the Christian Mothers at St. Michael Parish, served as former president of the Board of Directors of Mon Yough Community Services, was a member of Mon Yough Adult Rehabilitation Center (MYARC), and also helped as a Rails to Trails volunteer and Boy Scout den mother, where all three of her sons were Eagle scouts. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew B. Mayernik, who passed away December 11, 2006, her son, Paul Mayernik, and her two sisters, Helen Crammer and Irene Casper. She is survived by her sons, Dr. David (Amy) Mayernik of Murrysville and James J. Mayernik of Coraopolis; her daughters, Marilou (Terry) Rubright of Upper St. Clair and Dr. Janet (Joel) Paladino of Morgantown, WV; her ten grandchildren, Brian, Kevin, Nathaniel, Tyler, Nathan, Andrew, Alanna, Julia, Grace, and Amelia; her great-grandchild Ethan; sister, Mildred Pastor of Irwin; nieces and nephews. Friends will be received in the Daniel F. Bekavac Funeral Home and Crematory, 4504 Walnut Street, Versailles Boro, McKeesport, PA 15132 (412/678-3454) on Friday, April 8, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 12 Noon in St. Michael Parish, with Fr. Thomas Wagner officiating. Procession and burial will follow to Round Hill Cemetery.
