Lois J. Nirschel, age 87, of Pittsburgh, formerly of Mount Washington, died December 21, 2018, at Reformed Presbyterian Home.  Born August 15, 1931, in Pittsburgh, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Anna (McGrath) Baxendell and the wife of the late Carl X. Nirschel.

Lois had a wonderful heart and a deep concern for others, especially those less fortunate.  She cared for 13 foster children over her lifetime, worked at the Salvation Army serving the homeless and at the former Booth Home for Unwed Mothers in Pittsburgh.  Lois was proud to have marched during the civil rights movement and was steadfast liberal in her political views.  Lois will be fondly remembered for her feisty nature, sense of humor, and as a loving mother and sister.
Survivors include children, Carla Bittner, of Mount Washington, Clinton X. Nirschel, Sr., of Jacksonville, FL, formerly of Columbus, OH, and Richard M. (Berna) Cristi, of Seminole, FL; grandchildren, Thomas (Kayla), Michael (Michelle), Zachary (Stephanie), Clinton, Jr., Clayton, Kayla (Raheem) and Erica; great grandchildren, Brody, Ava, Jett, Marlo, Lily and True; sister, Dorothy (Robert) Wunderley of Liberty Borough; numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be welcomed at Willig Funeral Home & Crematory, on January 3, from 1 p.m. until the hour of memorial service at 3 p.m., in the funeral home chapel.  Pastor Debbie Smith, of Liberty Presbyterian Church, will officiate.  Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Association, www.alz.org.  Memories and condolences may be shared at www.willigfuneralcremationservices.com
