Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | April 18, 2016

Mike Mihalchik, Jr., of Port Vue, passed away unexpectedly on April 13, 2016 at Forbes Regional Hospital. Mike was born on January 25, 1928 in Munhall and attended Munhall High School and later Robert Morris Business School. He also served in the United States Navy, at sea during World War II and in the Pentagon during the Korean War. Upon returning from the Navy he married Elayne Muscante and together they had three children, each married, Sheryl (Brent) Maletic, Robert (Renee) and Michael (Bonnie). Mike’s education and interest in computing made him one of the true pioneers of the computing age. In the late 1950’s IBM introduced its first general processing systems and he was tasked to learn its capabilities by the manufacturer. As a skilled systems analyst he was employed by Mesta Machine Company and later by Mesta Computing Services until his retirement. He was very proud to be a long time member of the Pittsburgh Byzantine Catholic Archieparchial Choir until Myasthenia Gravis robbed him of his ability to sing. A truly wonderful father, Dad was always a great sounding board for life’s issues. Mike is survived by a sister Dolly Suchta, and is predeceased by his wife Elayne, sister Mary Helen Cosgrove and parents Helen and Mike Mihalchik. He also has three grandchildren of whom he loved dearly, Michael, Madeline and Amy. He will be greatly missed. Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., where a Parastas service will be held at 4 p.m. Divine Liturgy of Christian Burial will be Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church with Fr. Donald Voss as celebrant. Entombment will follow at New St. Joseph Cemetery, North Versailles. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Myasthenia Gravis Association of Western PA, 490 E. North Ave., Suite 410, Pittsburgh, PA 15212. Condolences may be shared at www.jaycox-jaworskifh.com
