Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | June 17, 2016

Joanna Carrozza, age 80, of McKeesport, died June 14, 2016, at Mount Vernon of Elizabeth. Born July 30, 1935, in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Dan and Helen (DellaPenna) DiVirgilio.
Joanna was an administrative assistant for 34 years at Westinghouse Electric, Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory in West Mifflin. She was a member of St. Patrick Church. Dancing was one of Joanna’s favorite pastimes. Her first date with, Bernard “Bernie”, her husband of 61 years, was to a local dance.

Throughout the years, the couple danced together beautifully, enjoying friends that faithfully joined them each month. Friends were important to Joanna, especially in her later years. Visiting with them at McKeesport's Renzie Senior Center was a daily pleasure. She enjoyed traveling and was an avid cross stitcher, but the one interest Joanna was most passionate about was shopping. She was an expert shopper, with a keen eye for style, a quest for value and a perpetually full closet of new things to wear.
In addition to her husband Bernie, survivors include daughters, Sheryl (Grant) Johnson of Boonville, IN and Jacquelyn Carrozza (Jeff Matkin) of Pocatello, ID; grandchildren, Trevor and Kristine Johnson and Aubri and Ben Matkin; great grandchildren, Olivia Johnson and Lyric Matkin; brother, Dennis (Audrey) DiVirgilio; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert DiVirgilio.
Family and friends will be received at Willig Funeral Home & Crematory, Saturday evening, from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick Church by Father Vincent P. Velas, Monday morning, at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at New St. Joseph Mausoleum.
