Eleanore “Ellie” Barovitch of Forest Hills passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at Juniper Village of Forest Hills.  Born October 8, 1936 in Helvetia, PA she was the daughter of the late Vera Spryszak Royer.  Ellie graduated from St. Catherine’s High School, Dubois, PA, St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing, Loretto, PA and The University of Pittsburgh, Pediatric Nursing, BSN.  

She retired from The Children’s Institute of Pittsburgh in 2002 as the Director of Nursing, a position she held for 27 of her 34 years of employment there.

After retirement she served on the Children’s Institute’s Safety Committee through 2016 as a Volunteer.  Ellie enjoyed going out to dinner, gardening, quilting, crafting and spending time with her family.

Besides her mom she was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Workman and special friend, Nick Fioravanti.  She is survived by her loving nephew, Jeffrey Workman.  She was the special adopted Grandma to Robbie & Kenny (Jayme) Tomco and Nicholas & Benjamin Jackson. Great Grandma to Jace and Reagan.  Also survived by family Tim, Denise, Randy “Pandy”, Corrine and many cousins.

Family and friends will gather at Strifflers of White Oak Cremation and Mortuary Services, 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412-678-6177) on Saturday, May 8, 2021 from 10:00 am until Noon when services will be held.  Fr. Bruce Sleczkowski will officiate and burial will follow.

Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be sent to The Children’s Institute of Pittsburgh, 1405 Shady Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15217.

The family and our team members appreciate that all visitors follow the current CDC guidelines including wearing of masks, social distancing, and capacity limits. We thank you for your cooperation and understanding. The family also wants everyone to know that they completely understand if anyone is not comfortable with visiting and paying their respects during the pandemic.
