Mary Louise (Newlin) “Nook” Gundaker, age 88, of Irwin, died peacefully Friday, August 19, 2016 at Excela Westmoreland Hospital. She was one month shy of her 89th birthday. She was born September 15, 1927 in Shafton, to the late James “Peenie” Newlin and Margaret Thompson “Peg” James. She was the stepdaughter of the late Dr. Emory S. James. Nook graduated from Norwin High School, class of 1945 and subsequently attended and graduated from Grace Martin Business School.

In addition to her parents and stepfather, she is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, William R. Gundaker, a former Naval aviator during WWII. Mary Louise is the last of her families WWII generation. She is survived by her children William T. Gundaker of Irwin and Margaret “Peggy” Parker and her husband Robert of Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Friends and family will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the William Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., 521 Main Street, Irwin, 724-863-1200, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. with Rev.
