It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Angela (Downs) Kushto, who passed away at home with family on March 24, 2025, at the age of 102. Born on April 11, 1922, in the Lawrenceville neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Angela was the fourth child of James Rodger Downs and Wilhelmina Downs. She was preceded in death by her sisters Wilhelmina and Harriet, brothers James and Paul, son James Peter Kushto, and her loving husband of 61 years, Wilfred B. Kushto Sr.
Angela was the beloved mother of Angela (Richard) Heidenreich, Wilfred B. (Karen) Kushto Jr., Jacqueline Coleman, and Roberta (John) Junker.
Angela was the loving grandmother of 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren, plus numerous nieces and nephews.
Angela was very active in her church as a Lector, Eucharistic minister, and CCD teacher. Angela had numerous leadership roles in the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (DCCW), Christian Mothers, Catholic Family Movement (CFM), and National Council of Catholic Women (NCCW), along with belonging to the Ladies of Charity.
Angela enjoyed traveling, playing cards, square dancing with her husband Wilfred, and supporting her husband in his church-affiliated activities. Angela loved spending time with her great-grandchildren, celebrating birthdays, holidays, and special occasions; it brought her much joy.
She adored her friends and lifelong neighbors.
Family and friends will be received at Willig Funeral Home & Crematory on Friday, March 28, 2025, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 10 a.m at Mary, Mother of God Parish, St. Patrick Church.
