Janet Spicer Mangus, age 91, of Whitehall, PA, formerly of White Oak, PA, died on Thursday, February 5, 2026. She was born in New Castle, PA, on May 5, 1934, and was the daughter of the late Elbert Chye and Olive Fraley Spicer.
To many she was lovingly known as Granny the babysitter. Janet was retired from the McKeesport School District and was a member of the Park Baptist Church in McKeesport, PA.
Janet is survived by her children, Jean (the late Rob) Mangus Pupich of White Oak, PA; Thomas (Diane) Mangus, III of West Mifflin, PA; and Sue (Richard) Mangus Danielson of Bethel Park, PA; and grandchildren, Alexa Danielson; Brooke (Drew) Mangus Gori; Thomas (Samantha) Mangus, IV; Ashley (Dickie) Pupich Markovitz; Sherry (Brian) Mangus McAfee; Lindsey Mangus Mulholland; and Brett Pupich; great-grandchildren, Ava; Paige; and Jaxon Gori; Cameron; Carson; Ronan; and Colter Mangus; Zane; and Zeke Markovitz; Morgan; and Emily McAfee; Elliana; Landon; Olivia; and Wyatt Mulholland; nieces; nephews; and sister-in-law, Suzanne Scarborough Spicer of Bedford, PA.
In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Edward Mangus, Jr.; brothers, Fredrick Spicer; William (the late Nancy Large Spicer) Spicer; and Walter Spicer; brother-in-law, Richard Mangus; and sister-in-law, Kathleen Mangus.
The family would like to thank all of the employees at Whitehall Borough Post Acute, who took exceptional care of Mother; as well as Janet’s special friends, Larry Scher; and Maurice Trent, who watched over and cared for Janet.
Family and friends are invited to gather and honor Janet’s memory on Monday, February 9, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at Noon, officiated by Pastor Nicholas Stephanovic, at Strifflers of White Oak Cremation and Mortuary Services, Inc., 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412-678-6177). A burial will follow.
