Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | January 14, 2017
John G. “Lobo” Barretta, 88, of McKeesport, died Jan. 11, 2017, at UPMC McKeesport. Born Mar. 6, 1928, in Turtle Creek, he was the son of the late Earnest L. and Mary (Lebanno) Barretta and the husband of Aurora (Marchetti) Barretta.
John was a member of St. Patrick Church. A U.S. army veteran, he served as a medic in the Korean War. Returning home from overseas, he became a barber in Wilmerding, a trade that he would continue, at least part time, for the rest of his life.
John retired as a quality control inspector with Westinghouse Airbrake in Wilmerding after 25 years of employment. He kept up on current events and of course, his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers, subjects fervently discussed with his friends at the Great Valley Barbershop. John was a loving husband and dearly loved brother-in-law. A special, “Thanks, Dad” goes out from his children, for being such a great life-role model.
In addition to his wife, survivors include daughter, Joanna (Dave) Robinson of Upper St. Clair; son, Ernest (Cindy) Barretta of Perry Hall, MD; granddaughters, Danielle and Isabella; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by sisters, Molly Nigra and Toni DiNapoli.
Family and friends will be received Sunday from 12 -2 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Willig Funeral Home. Blessing Service will be offered by Father Daniel Straughn on Monday, 10:00 a.m., in the funeral home chapel. Military honors and entombment will follow at Penn Lincoln Mausoleum. Memorials are suggested to Autism Society of Pittsburgh, 4371 Northern Pike, Monroeville, PA 15146. Condolences may be shared at www.willigfuneralcremationservices.com.
