Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | March 31, 2026

Joyce M. Witt, age 80, of Liberty Borough, died at home on March 28, 2026. Born November 30, 1945, in Duquesne, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (Seminishen) Hernishen and the wife of Manfred Witt for 59 years.

Joyce was born and raised with a deep appreciation for family and faith. She met her loving husband, Manfred Witt, at a dance, and their bond flourished into a beautiful partnership that lasted a lifetime. Joyce dedicated herself to her work as a bank teller before transitioning to a rewarding career in retail, where her friendly demeanor and genuine care for others shone through.

As an active member of Saints Joachim and Anne Parish, Joyce found joy in her faith and community. She was also a cherished member of the former Christian Mothers, where she connected with other women who shared her passions and values.

A lover of literature, Joyce delighted in reading and meticulously created index cards to document her experiences with each book and author. Her enthusiasm extended to her home, where she lovingly decorated for every holiday, creating a warm and inviting space for family and friends. Joyce was also known for her exceptional baking skills, often sharing her sweet creations with neighbors and friends.

Generosity was a hallmark of Joyce's character. She was never shy about reaching out to loved ones. She sent thoughtful cards for birthdays, anniversaries, or simply to lift spirits. In her spare time, she enjoyed solving puzzles and playing Scrabble. She also looked forward to her monthly card club meetings with friends. Joyce had a special affinity for the beach. She relished the sun and the joy it brought her.

In addition to her husband, Fred, she is also survived by her children, Richard (Michelle) Witt and Debbie (Andy) Bodnar; grandchildren, Zoe Bodnar, Caitlin Bodnar, Drew Bodnar, Abby Witt, Emily Witt, and Logan Witt. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Hernishen.

As per Joyce's wishes, there will be no services. Arrangements were entrusted to Willig Funeral Home & Crematory. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.willigfuneralcremationservices.com.
