Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | August 23, 2016

William Crawford, age 87, of White Oak, died August 21, 2016, at Mt. Vernon of Elizabeth. Born July 17, 1929, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Frank and Caroline (Delo) Crawford and the husband of the late Emma (Freyer) Crawford for 50 loving years.

Bill retired from US Steel, where he started as a laborer and worked his way to motor inspector. He was a US Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was a longtime member of the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Bill had a passion for singing and was a member of the Mon-Yough Chorale. He was a consummate “do-it-yourselfer,” and enjoyed spending time with his family and “grand dogs.” He had a dry sense of humor and enjoyed telling really bad puns.
Bill’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Mt. Vernon of Elizabeth for the kind and compassionate care given to him throughout this difficult time.
Bill is survived by sons, Michael (Suzanne) Crawford of San Diego, CA and Carl (Anne) Crawford of Shippensburg, PA; nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Bill was preceded in death by all of his siblings; Ruth, “Birdie”, Frank, “Dee” and Esther.
Family and friends will be received at Willig Funeral Home & Crematory on Friday, August 26, 2016, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday receiving of friends will continue in church from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 10 a.m., at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 329 Ninth St., McKeesport, PA 15132.
