It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Shaun Daryl Sparico, a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, retired police officer and former United States Marine, who passed away on March 28, 2025, at the age of 62. A true hero in every sense, Shaun served his country and community with unwavering commitment and courage.

Born on October 27, 1962 in McKeesport Pennsylvania, Shaun was a proud Marine who served 5 years in the United States Marine Corps. He took pride in posting his Semper Fi flags and had a stockpile of Marine hats that he would frequently display.

His time in the military shaped him into the resilient, disciplined, and compassionate individual that so many came to admire. After honorably completing his service, Shaun continued his passion for protecting others by joining the McKeesport Police, where he served for 20 years.

Throughout his tenure he held roles from Patrolmen to Captain of Detectives before hanging up his badge.

During his career, he earned respect from colleagues and citizens alike, known for his integrity, bravery, and dedication to justice.

Patricia Irene Olliffe, age 78, of Dravosburg, PA, died on Saturday, March 22, 2025. She was born in McKeesport, PA on October 24, 1946 and was the daughter of the late John and Irene Liszka Petrosko. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a master’s degree in Education. Patricia was a teacher for thirty-four years at Baldwin-Whitehall School District. After her retirement, she taught English as a second language for five years in the same school district. She was a member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA) and was vice president of the Baldwin-Whitehall PSEA for many years. She was very creative, a fantastic decorator, and would make wreaths for others. She also loved traveling, and her favorite places included Rome, Paris, and Alaska. Family was very important to her, especially taking her granddaughter to the theater.

Kenneth G. Elko Sr., age 90, of Elizabeth Twp., passed away on Monday, March 31, 2025, at The Grove at Irwin. Ken was an Army veteran who served during the Korean War. He was a member of Sts. Joachim and Ann Parish, St. Michael Church in Elizabeth Twp., was a lifetime member of the West Newton, Elizabeth Twp. and Shaner gun clubs, and a member of Stock the Yough. Kenneth was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors. Born  February 22, 1935 in Glassport, he was a son of the late George and Mary (Komondor) Elko. He is survived by his two daughters, Sharon Eden of Hanover and Susan Barno of McKeesport; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister with whom he resided, Mary Jane Revetta; also, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Elko Jr., and a brother, Robert Elko. Friends will be received at the Paul E. He was semi-retired after 36 years as a public relations consultant for the David L. Veres Company in Pleasant Hills. He had a passion for aviation and World War II history. He was an avid plane modeler in his younger years and was a member of the International Plastic Modelers Society for many years. He enjoyed martial arts, primarily Judo. Born March 6, 1952 in Charleroi, he was a son of the late Milan J. and Dolores (Sedlak) Veres. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Judi H. (Hajel) Veres; children, Rachel Veres of Pleasant Hills, Benjamin (Ashley) Veres of Cranberry Twp., Leah Veres of Pleasant Hills and Jonathan (Caitlin Crall) Veres of Pittsburgh; granddaughter, Nayla Veres; siblings, Joseph (Paula) Veres, Beth (Larry) Pansino, Dale (Cathi) Veres, Jean (Bob) Muir and Jennifer (Michael) Rubin; also, nieces, nephews and cousins. A 1974 graduate of Elizabeth Forward High School, he retired after 37 years from the maintenance department at Metalor Technologies in Export. He loved the Steelers and gardening in the summer, used to ski in his younger days. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren. Born March 18, 1956 in McKeesport, he was a son of Francis E. (Helen) Pomilio and the late Florence J. (McCorkle) Pomilio. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Anna (Hutchko) Pomilio; sons, Anthony M. of Elizabeth, Michael A. of Elizabeth Twp. and Joshua M. (Tori) of Forward Twp.; grandchildren, Nora Rae, Liam Matthew and Lincoln Michael Pomilio; brothers, Jeffrey (Loren) Pomilio of Elizabeth Twp. and Gary (Stacey) Pomilio of Elizabeth Twp.; stepbrothers, Jay Matyas of Pleasant Hills and Mark (Dennen) Matyas of Hunker; his dog, Bugsy;  also, nieces and nephews. She wife of the late James Robert Ranchik, who passed away August 10, 2017.  Johanne was a member of Sts. Joachim and Anne Parish and attended the St. Michael Church and was also a member of the Elizabeth Twp. Seniors. She was an avid reader and loved to read Western Romances. She was an avid bird watcher and loved her hummingbirds, cardinals and other birds who visited her. She loved going out for tacos and margaritas.
